This medal was commissioned by the Royal Naval Patrol Service Association to commemorate service in the Royal Naval Patrol Service between 1939 and 1945 or their next of kin.

The woven ribbon comprises the dark and light green of the deep and the shallow of the ocean while the black stripe represents the mines and orange the explosion.

The Royal Naval Patrol Service Association is the beneficiary of this medal.
